The Roland V71 is the new flagship module for 2024 and is the direct replacement for the TD-50X. It features a totally revamped VST quality sound engine with over 1000 sounds built in. The sounds are improved over the TD-50X while still retaining the great triggering experience. Other added features are a large 4.3 color screen, built in bluetooth, USB-C connector, and built in WiFi ( for updates and importing ).

On Friday February 21st I received my long awaited pre-ordered Roland V71 controller and PD-14DSX snare drum. I had some initial reservations about the usability of the V71 based on past experience with a TD-50 that I replaced with a TD-27. All concerns went out the window in the first five minutes of using the V71. It is a huge improvement in all aspects compared to the TD-50, 50X and 27 controllers.
The samples and kits sound quality are noticeably improved. The mix controls, editing screen, bluetooth/wifi connectivity and control layout are easier to use and much more effective. After about a hour I was so impressed I cleaned up my PD-140DS snare and TD-27 controller being replaced, photographed and listed them on Reverb.
Saturday the 22nd I focused on getting the direct outs connected to my mixer/PA then adjusted routing and EQ for each channel. It worked so well I ordered six, 15 foot TRS cables to make a permanent harness for connecting the V71 direct-outs to the mixer for any future rehearsal or live set up.

Just received this long awaited successor to the TD50X. The V71 refines and adds to the good capabilities of its predecessor. I very much look forward to it having native Wifi and Bluetooth capabilities which is one of the things I loved about my TD27. Nothing like setting up new gear on a rainy day.

I've only had this for a few days but am very impressed so far! I know it's only gonna get better every day, I'm really looking forward to living with it. I've been a Roland edrum user and proponent since the 80's from the Simmons SD-9 up to present and pretty much every Roland edrum product available. I've designed and built ekits and use these both live and in the studio for years. Love it!!
